It's All Here - Competition or Recreation

Get in on sports whether you are a serious athlete or a recreational participant. Both our NCAA Division III sports and our intramural programs are opportunities for you to stand out in whatever competition you pursue. While most of Gallaudet's varsity sports are affiliated with the Capital Athletic Conference, Bison football will be a member of the North Atlantic Conference effective January 2009.

Participate in an intramural program that includes more than a dozen different team sports such as flag football, volleyball, basketball, floor hockey, dodgeball, and indoor soccer as well as individual competitions in racquetball, chess, and ping pong.

If you prefer staying in shape over competitive sports, the Field House facilities are the place for you. You will find a weight room, a swimming pool, a dance studio, racquetball courts, and a rock climbing wall. Outdoor facilities include tennis courts, track, and baseball fields.

History-making major leaguer coaches at Gallaudet

Curtis Pride, the first full-season deaf player in the modern era of major league baseball, has retired from professional baseball and taken up the position of head baseball coach at Gallaudet.

A native of Washington, D.C., Pride, 40, was born deaf. Mainstreamed throughout his education, he broke all of the single season and career records for soccer, basketball, and baseball at his Silver Spring, Md. high school. Pride also played for the United States team in the 1985 Junior World Cup in Beijing, China, and as a result of his play was named one of the top 15 youth soccer players in the world.
