All students who withdraw from or leave the University for any reason must reapply for readmission. When all required documents have been received, your academic, student life, and student account records will be reviewed. You will be informed in writing of the readmission decision within four weeks. Financial aid forms, registration information (class schedule and course selection forms), housing contract form, and related materials will be sent only to those students who are officially readmitted to the University.
There are three classifications of readmitted students:
- Returning in good standing: You left the University in good academic and disciplinary standing. Send in your application by the deadlines and be sure you have cleared all debts.
- Returning after being academically suspended or dismissed: If you have been out of the University for more than two terms you do not need to appeal to Committee C to be reinstated. However, you do need to provide college transcripts from all schools attended and two recommendation letters.
If you have been out less than two terms, you need to appeal to Committee C to explain your rationale for suspension or dismissal. Click here for more information on the appeals procedure.
- Returning after a disciplinary suspension: You were dismissed from the University for a disciplinary reason. If your suspension has conditions for readmission, you must write to the Office of Campus Life and submit documented evidence that you have met the requirements for readmission. You are strongly advised to do this well in advance of the deadlines for readmission.
If you have been out less than two terms, you need to appeal to Committee C to explain your rationale for suspension or dismissal. Click here for more information on the appeals procedure.
There are two classifications of second-degree students:
- Undergraduate degree from Gallaudet: You have graduated from Gallaudet University, but are interested in obtaining another bachelor's degree. You need to get a letter from the Gallaudet department chair granting you permission for your new designated major. You must meet all department criteria for that major and must complete at least 30 hours in that major.
- Undergraduate degree from a college or university other than Gallaudet: You have a B.A., B.S., or other higher degree from an accredited college or university but want to get another bachelor's degree at Gallaudet. You must satisfy the second degree's major requirements and major prerequisites. You may ask the appropriate department chairperson if any courses taken at another college or university will transfer for the second degree major requirements or prerequisites.
