We stayed in Canada for a long weekend, and enjoyed every bit of our stay there. A Gallaudet classmate, Sarah Anne Hyrencko, currently resides in Bowen Island, and graciously was our hostess. Her roommate, a Gallaudet graduate named Stephen Dorman, owns a house on the island, which only has a few hundred inhabitants.

Stephen is unique in that his great-grandfather was one of the first people who colonized the island, and the house Stephen lives in is on the historical register for the province, so we were indeed very fortunate to be able to stay there. There is a road bearing Stephen's last name (Dorman Road) and a scenic lookout (Dorman Point)... went swimming in a crystal clear lake, and ate yummy cinnamon rolls in the local bakery.

We also were lucky enough to go up to Whistler, BC, home to two large mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb, and a world class ski resort. In the summer, Whistler turns into a BMX course, and there are also gondola rides to the very peak of the mountain, which we went on... the views of the glaciers surrounding were definitely spectacular! We also stopped at Brandywine Falls on the way, and drove on the Sea to Sky parkway.

When we returned to Vancouver (known as Van), we went sightseeing in Stanley Park, Granville Island (great eats!), and drove out to Kitislano, where the University of British Columbia has land by the ocean. We ate at Sophie's Cosmic Cafe - definite thumbs up... all the food in Canada tastes better for some reason.
