Back to the Grind

Well, summer is over and it’s back to the daily grind. I had a good time over the summer, I learned a lot about myself, and I prepared myself for another year here at Gally. So far, all my classes have been awesome. I’m taking three major’s courses, (Intro to Bio for Bio Majors, Ecology, and Invertebrate Zoology), as well as Honors Government and Advanced CPR and First Aid for the Professional Rescuer. One thing I like about the advanced CPR class is that the class only lasts a month (2 nights a week, 6 hours a week for 4-5 weeks), but we get three credits for it. Plus, it helps me with my future goal of becoming a nurse.

Speaking of nurses, I attended a conference this weekend on campus held by the The Association of Medical Professionals With Hearing Losses (AMPHL). I was required to go for all three of my Bio classes, but honestly, I would have gone even if I had to pay for myself. I met two deaf doctors from Rochester, as well as a deaf fireman from Pennsylvania, who gave me some advice on how to check if I can become a firefighter in my state. If it’s possible, I really want to look into becoming a firefighter as soon as possible. I look up to the men and woman I met yesterday, because they are leaders in the field, and are an inspiration to any of us who are interested in entering the medical field. If you’re interested in the medical sciences, I highly suggest you check out www.amphl.org. They have a lot of information, including technological advances that have been made that allow deaf people to use things like stethoscopes.

If you ever have a chance to attend a Nationals baseball game with a friends, I highly suggest you do it. I went with 12 friends to last Friday night's game, and it was easily the best sporting event I have ever attended. We were losing the game, and then rallied back at the top of the 8th to win 8-6; the atmosphere was amazing. Everyone had a great time, the only bad part was the trip home… It takes forever to get out of that place after a game. My suggestion, take metro to the Eastern Market, then ride the bus from there to Gally, the stop is a block away.

I’m trying to decide if I want to get another tattoo. There is a deaf tattoo artist that might be coming here in a few weeks, and I’m interested in getting another one, and supporting my “community.” The only problem is, they aren’t exactly cheap.

I’ll try to post a little more regularly from now on, the first two weeks back were crazy, but now that we are in the routine, I think I can post a bit more often.
