Here’s a piece of advice to anyone that reads this: Never work sixty hours in a week. For the last two weeks, and continuing into next week, I am working sixty hours. Forty hours in the computer lab and twenty hours at the Cochlear Implant Education Center. In case you haven’t figured it out, I’m kind of a workaholic (just ask any of my friends). Even though I’m tired, hot, my back hurts at the end of the day, and I’m ready for a nap, I’m still enjoying myself. The only bad part is that I don’t get to spend much time with my friends. The nice thing is that after this week, I’ll be going down to forty hours again.
Since we’re on the subject of advice, I’ll give a mini review of the food places that deliver to Gallaudet. We have four major Chinese places and five major pizza places that deliver to the campus. A brief note, unless you eat out every night of the week, I doubt you will gain the dreaded “freshman 15,†eating the Gally cafeteria food ensures that….
Chinese places:
Yum’s
Panda
New China
Szechuan House
Yums:
Yums is probably the most popular at Gallaudet. It’s close by, it’s the cheapest option, and it’s the one with the fastest service. Me personally, I find the quality to be very lacking, and it’s my last resort. However the quantity of the food is amazing; if you can eat one of their Lo Mein servings in one sitting, I’ll be impressed. They only accept cash.
Panda:
Panda isn’t well known yet, but they offer a good balance of quality and quantity. My only complaint is that they take the longest to deliver and you cannot save their food PERIOD (I tried eating leftovers 12 hours after I got it, when it had been promptly refrigerated and all that, and I was sick as a dog.) Again, cash only, and their egg rolls are lacking.
New China:
New China is very good, and at a good price, but it has the smallest portion size of them all. They deliver kind of slow too. Probably the best pick for Gally students looking for a compromise between price and taste. Cash only.
Szechuan House
The best Chinese by far, but also the most expensive. They are the only place that allows people to order with a debit card, which is a definite plus for those who don’t like to have a lot of cash on them. Their combination Lo Mein is to die for and they do an awesome dumpling appetizer.
Pizza Places:
Domino’s
Pizza Hut
Citipizza
Capitol Pizza
Bolo’s
Everyone knows Domino’s and Pizza Hut, so I won’t waste too much time with them. One thing I will mention is that Domino’s has excellent service, friendly staff, and a quick turnaround most of the time. Pizza Hut, is the opposite. I gave up on them after the third pizza I had ordered in a row never showed up, and when they do decide to show up, they either find the wrong dorm and leave, or they take over an hour to get here. Really not worth it in my opinion, even if they do have good pizza. Both accept either cash or credit.
Capitol Pizza:
Capitol has the benefit of being right down the street from Gally (3 blocks), and they do make good pizza. I especially enjoy their all meat combo. They are cheaper then Domino’s, but the pizza can be a little greasy. They also do sandwiches. Accept either cash or credit.
Citipizza:
Save your money, just pour some hot grease on a piece of cardboard, the quality is about the same. Accept either cash or credit.
Bolo’s:
Bolo’s makes a OK pizza, but their specialty is their cheesebread. You can order just that alone and be overwhelmed with the cheesy goodness. Accept either cash or credit.
Hope all the frosh find this helpful, and if the upperclassmen care to chime in and tell if they agree or not, feel free to do so.
Below are some pictures of me, just so you will know what I look like. Try not to laugh too loud.
Below is a picture of me and my girlfriend taking a few months back. This was a semi-professional photo shoot we did for Christmas gifts for our families.

This is an image of me at the Cheesecake factory celebrating a friend’s birthday.

I dabble in photography, and this is a picture I took of the Jefferson Memorial about a month ago in the late afternoon.

Glad you took my advice.
Nice photos!
