A New Chapter in the Book of Life

A new semester has begun, but this semester is different for me, it’s also a new beginning.

As many of you probably noticed, I haven’t updated my blog in a long time. That’s because I haven’t been at Gallaudet. On November 2nd, my entire life changed when my mother was killed in a house fire. Shortly before Christmas, my grandmother died as well. I left Gallaudet within two days of my mother’s death, and it wasn’t until the beginning of January that I had any idea of if I was going to be back. I’m lucky that I have a great family who helped me to realize that the best way to honor my mother is to come back here, and finish my education.

To say that this semester has been hard would be an understatement. I broke up with my girlfriend in December, so I’ve had to adjust to the “single” life at Gallaudet, but honestly, I can’t complain, its interesting what you discover about yourself as an individual without any of the pressures and commitments of a relationship.

I’m taking it kind of easy this semester, by taking Intro to Psychology, Government 102, Pre-calculus, Law and Equality (an honors special topic,) and Mock Trial. So far I especially enjoy the Law and Equality class and Mock Trial. In April after 10 weeks of training we will split into two teams of six and try a murder case. I will be on the defense, which is ironic as heck, since I’ve spent the last two weeks trying to figure out how to make the guy fry! (if you haven’t figured it out, I support capitol punishment).

I’ve quit writing for the Buff and Blue, but I’m keeping my jobs at the computer labs and at the Cochlear Implant Center, albeit with less hours. So far I feel a lot less stressed out then I thought would be, which makes me relieved.

I can’t say enough how awesome the people here at Gallaudet have been through this hard time, I had deans and teachers asking left and right what they could do to help me out, some of whom I’d never met before, it really meant a lot to me, and reinforced my belief that in many ways Gallaudet becomes like a large family, not just a university.

I’ll do my best to keep the blog more up to date from now on, and I’ll have some pictures from classes up soon. Yawl take care now ya hear?

I flew to Texas during the second week of January to visit my friend Brittney, while I was there, we went to the Alamo, heres a picture of me standing in front of it.

This is a black and white photograph I took of a firestation right across the street from the Alamo, I just liked the way it turned out.
