Sometimes don’t you wish you were a kid again? Movies like Big always do that to me. Or they make me wish I were a thirty-something year old, with a nice job, one of the best in the world- a toy developer. There are very few things in life that can beat being a toy developer, especially if you get to invent all sorts of creations and newfangled objects.
Sometimes I sit back and imagine, I think everybody should do that once in a while, just sit back and think of all the cool things there are in the world. I notice the little things in life, but usually don’t sit around wondering what things will be like a year from now, 5 years from now, ten… do you?
Sometimes you open your hands, when you wake up from a curled up position on your bed, in the wee hours of the morning, and see all the good things that will happen to you on a horizon, things either in the near distance or almost at the edge, nearly caroming off. It is at those times that you look around and count your blessings. do you?
Sometimes you laugh and just walk down the street with your buddy, singing away at the top of your lungs or as fast as your hands can possibly handle, and sing nonsense. Singing nonsense is the surest way to pass time, and enjoy yourself. Who cares who else’s watching? do you?
Sometimes you look back in time and realize how much you’ve changed, as a result of a million tiny little pieces. I love looking at the cover of James Frey’s “memoir”, A Million Little Pieces, the book that caused all the furor with Oprah. The picture is so good- a million tiny non-pareils all stuck on one single hand, and think about it.. if a single one falls off, the whole thing’s changed, and you might not even notice it. do you?
Sometimes you have to suck it in and continue down the roller coaster, when your neck’s in an impossible position and you can only look forward to things that are yet to come. In college, things change in a rapid blink of the eye, less than two shakes of a lamb’s tail, and they morph, slowly, painstakingly, into something else. Not everyone notices the change. do you?
Sometimes you realize you’ve just said a bunch of things that really don’t make sense, and it’s all right, because you know that you’re cool, you’re hot, and you don’t have to be socked in the stomach three more times.
So sing more nonsense. Open your hands. Count your blessings. Invent newfangled things.
