rockfest and all that jazz…

Some other bloggers have written about our lovely tradition with RITers, having a Rockfest party here every even year and a Brickfest thing over at RIT every odd year, and then you think.. what’s it all about? Is it all about partying your head off while being intoxicated and looking for the next person you can sneak up behind and “booyah!” their lights out?

Really, no. Not at all. Rockfest is about having fun, appreciating the camaderie between Gallaudet and RIT, and seeing old friends. I had a blast during Gally/RIT weekend- caught the bowling team (Gallaudet won), the water polo match (RIT won) and part of the indoor soccer game (hmm.. I think RIT won but I could be wrong). I had a good lunch at Chipotle over in College Park, with the burrito-eating world champion, Stephanie Danner. That woman can woof a burrito, lemme tell ya. I mean, what is it with Chipotle burritos? I swear, Chipotle must’ve seen record profits this weekend, what with all the RIT folks with a Chipotle-less Rochester flocking to the local Chipotles.

So, needless to say, Saturday was an awesome day. I enjoyed myself thoroughly. I ate very little, drank more, and talked even more. I saw a lot of old friends, and got the chance to catch up with new friends. In fact, my fellow GBlogger, Tyler, and I enjoyed chatting for a little while while watching part of the Gally/RIT Dance-Off competition on-stage. Tyler played against Stephanie in the water polo match I witnessed earlier, and Tyler tried valiantly to fight off those Tigers, then decided he was just gonna party with them later on anyway, so what was the point… that’s probably how a lot of matches went down for Gally/RIT Weekend. But I want to give the Gally/RIT Weekend committee under Mike Kennedy a shout-out for doing a terrific job coordinating the day’s sports activities.

Rockfest went off without a hitch. Only one injury that I know of was reported, but other than that everyone enjoyed themselves immensely, and enjoyed seeing old friends, chatting, catching up and watching the excellent entertainment (flame swallowers! latin rock band! dance-off! dj!). Hats off to the entire crew, especially the Entertainment Coordinator, the lovely & amazing Summer Crider. You did an incredible job.

Whenever you’re near DC and it’s April, look us up. Gallaudet students will likely be busy in the whole flurry of Rockfest activity. Come on over and check us out ;)
