The end of the year is almost here, and frankly, I can’t wait. While there were some good memories of my second year here at Gallaudet, in large part I can’t wait to put it behind me. This really doesn’t have much to do with Gallaudet, as this semester has been the most academically stimulating for me yet, but has in large part to do with my personal life. A lot of things that I would love to put behind me happened this year, and I look at my junior year as a chance for rebirth. As such, I’m making several changes in my life.
Firstly, I will be moving off-campus; I will be living in a beautiful 3 story house in Alexandria, where I will have the luxury of a kitchen, a private bedroom, and most importantly, a private bathroom. While I love the atmosphere of always having something to do on-campus, I feel that I need a separation of my class/study place, and my living place.
I’ve applied for several new jobs on campus, and was recently selected to be the Director of Academic Affairs for SBG for the 2006-2007 school year. I’m looking forward to this opportunity and I’m taking over for a man I respect greatly in Luis Valles. I hope to continue his work, and also leave my own impression on the academic life here at Gallaudet. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
I will also be serving as a teacher’s assistant for the First Year Seminar class. I’ll be a TA for Judith Termini, who taught my FYS class my freshman year, and who has continued to mentor me during my time here at Gallaudet. If there are any freshman reading this, I’ll also be helping out during New Student Orientation week, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask me.
I’ve decided to Minor in Psychology after taking Introduction to Psychology this semester, a class I really enjoyed. The human mind is a fascinating thing, and I feel it can really benefit me as a government major, since I’m sure all of us have wished we could into a politicians head more than once…
I’m thrilled that finals week is finally here, I’m looking forward to this summer, I’ll be moving into my new apartment, and then I’ll be working at a summer camp for Deaf children in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Hopefully I’ll also find some time to do some traveling.
The next president of Gallaudet University is expected to be announced this week, and I think everyone on campus is holding their breath. There has been a lot of debate about the three candidates on campus, and I personally find myself torn. I have the privilege of knowing two of the candidates personally. Ron Stern was the Superintendant of my deaf school, and I’ve considered him a good friend ever since, he played a huge role in me choosing Gallaudet, so I would love to see him improve Gallaudet just as he did with NMSD. My freshman year I took a public speaking class under Steve Weiner, and his class remains one of my all time favorites on campus. I feel that if either of these men are chosen, the future of Gallaudet is extremely bright.
That’s all for now, I’ll write back soon and fill you in on my classes for next semester, as well as various other things. For now, enjoy the pictures below.
Went to the Cherry Blossom Festival in late march. Beautiful weather, and a great experience. If you ever get the chance to go, grab it!

This is what kind of stuff my roomates come up with when bored… No idea where they got the glow-in-the-dark Jesus, but its a pretty cool effect. Makes for a great nightlight too!

I went to an Amish family farm about a week ago with the German Club. They owned about 9 horses, and while I was petting this one, he nuzzled my arm, and created that perfect Z you see with his nose… I told the Amish family they should name the horse Zorro… they didn’t get the reference.
