Get in on your college education with the General Studies curriculum. The four required Freshman Foundation courses will lay the groundwork for your interdisciplinary courses. Start off with First Year Seminar, bilingual courses in English and ASL, and Quantitative Reasoning, and then immerse yourself in integrated courses.
Integrated learning, a microcosm of the professional working world, is the latest trend in higher education. You will study themes from several perspectives and make connections across disciplines. Study biology through the lens of literature or reexamine society through the shutters of history. Or select a course on Global Warming taught by professors from biology, government, and communication studies. In addition, you will participate in a service learning project outside Gallaudet related to the topic you choose.
You will tie all the courses together with a Capstone Experience which will tackle real-world problems. This will include researching, planning, and implementing innovative solutions to these projects. By the time you graduate, you will stand out in five competencies: language and communication; critical thinking; identity and culture; knowledge and inquiry; and ethics and social responsibility.
